Another weave

Buttermarket work

We had to draw a 360 degree view of the Buttermarket on a piece of paper 6 foot long. From this i then created the image below by using the photocopier for effects. I also used the method of weaving in a variety of colours.

Textiles 2 continued

I returned to the idea of using the netting and this time i used half and half. As you can see on the right is the netting which i have coloured using felt tips and on the left i have made another fan which is a picture of Victoriana.

This time i wanted to make this page look different and interesting so i used a lot of lines to fill spaces and also hole punched areas of the paper where i then threaded wool through for a different effect. The diamond shapes that you can see, on one side illustartes the Victoriana netting and on the other is the micrscopy. Thios was time consuming to stick the images thogether and then manipulate them around to form ths shape.

I enlarged an image of the microscopy and placed it on the next page. I then cut into the previous page with the floral shape that i produced my very first page with, along with the other flowers that are present on the netting. I believe that this creates a good effect.

This page shows an array of collaged images all in relation to my 3 words.

Finally, i have the image with and without the netting placed down the side for a border. The main focal point is wallpaper which i have cut up and in the gaps i placed pictures of Victoriana in there.

Alphabetical and numerical still life

The image on the left illustrates the still life that we were working from. We had to draw what we saw - including the 3D areas. Opposite represents my interpretation. From this image i then used the collage technique to produce the image below.

Still life drawing

We had a still life set up infront of us and we had to draw what we saw. Being interested in textiles and patterns i didn't want to simply draw what i saw, so instead i focused on the shapes that objects made. The main focal shape was a ribcage which is evident in my outcomes.

Textiles 2

I enjoyed the first taster lessons in textiles so i decided to take this as a chosen workshop as i am thoroughly interested in the sbject and would like to work within this employment area in the future.

Our second task was to pick 3 titles from a random list given to us.

The 3 that i chose were:

1. Minerals

2. Victoriana

3. Microscopy

Once we had the images, rather like before we had to manipulate them so that they were all intertwined on one page.
I began by weaving the minerals and microscopy picture through a quilt image. Around the edge i placed the possible weave colours that i could use. I then reproduced the image in different colours.

This then gave me some options as to which coloured weave i would prefer

On this image i concentrated on the Victoriana image which came from the floral motif in the middle. The blue and yellow border around the outside is a close up view of a mineral. I then cut out the floral shape and painted it black, and placed it on top of coloured floral outlines as the background effect.

In this image i enlarged the Victoriana netting for the main background and cut the shape of the flower out in different colours in the minerals and microscopy image so that i was thoroughly incorporating all of my random words. I then worked with a layered effect.

After researching Victoriana and noticing that a lot of the pictures included nets, i went into town and bought a floral net to then manipulate. On the picture opposite, on the left i put my image down on the photocopier with the netting on top to produce an effect. In the middle i have the actual netting nthat i bought and on the right i have the image bare with nothing covering it so you can see what i began with. I then lined up the floral motif exactly from the picture with my bought netting.

For this image i used the same principle. I placed a different patterned netting over the image and photocopied it. I then had the flower motif on the next page for a different design, so i decided to cut a whole into my page so that this could be seen.

This time i used the other half from th enlarged netting image and cut a circle i tot he floral design to reveal another one of my words - minerals

I returned to weaving once again where i weaved two different images of microscopy together which in this case consists of close up views of bacteria or germs. This time i weaved vertically and horizontally.

This time i used a variety of images from each word and simply cut them up to form random compositions for maximum effect.

This time, instead of weaving with paper, i cut sections of my net up and used this to weave through an image of microscopy.

For this image i wanted to cut sections from a picture of Victoriana. As a result, i chose a picture that already had a geometric shape on it - in this case rectangles. I left one rectangle which was attached to the image, on the next i cut it out and placed a picture of Victoriana behind it, and on the third rectangle i placed a picture of microscopy behind it in this sequence to go around the whole image. This then merged all of my words into one image.

On this image i included a variety of shape formations and experimented with a new way of displaying the picture - in the shape of a fan. I like the overall effect that this creates against the different backgrounds which all represent the 3 words.

I returned back to using the netting that i had bought. This time i used water colours to paint the floral outline onto the net, which represented the Victoriana word.
